Trailer bearing, hub & axle service

A hot or noisy wheel end is the one fault that turns into a fire, a lost wheel or a seized axle if you keep rolling. We pull hubs, replace bearings, races and seals, check the spindle, and repack or renew on site — semi trailers, utility trailers and saltwater boat trailers.

What does trailer bearing replacement cost?

Bearings are cheap. What they take with them is not. Caught early this is a repack and a seal; left too long it is a spindle, a hub, a drum and sometimes an axle. That gap is the whole reason we would rather see a warm hub than a smoking one.

What changes the price Sheet 02
FactorWhy it moves the number
Repack or replaceClean, inspect and repack with new seals is the low end. New bearings, races and hub is the high end.
What the heat didA seized bearing scores the spindle. That is a different repair, and we will show you the part.
How many wheel endsPriced per end. Doing all of them while we are there costs less than separate visits.
Oil bath or greaseDifferent seals, different labor, different mess.
Drum conditionPulling a hub means looking at the drum. Out of spec, we will say so rather than reassemble it.
Roadside or at your yardA wheel end on the shoulder of I-95 is not the same job as one on your lot.
Saltwater exposureBoat trailers that get dunked corrode from the inside. Expect seals, and sometimes more.

We quote before we start and we do not begin work you have not approved. We do not publish ranges here, because the same job varies too much by trailer, access and hour — call and we will give you a number for your unit.

How do I know a bearing is going?

A failing bearing gives you warning: heat, noise, play or grease where there should not be any. Pull over and check when you notice any of these, because the failure that follows is not gradual.

Tell dispatch which wheel and what you noticed. Heat and noise point to different parts, and it changes what rides on the truck.

How often should trailer bearings be serviced?

Semi trailers: inspected at every PM, hub service on condition and mileage rather than a calendar. Port and drayage units wear faster than line-haul.

Utility trailers: once a year for anything working daily, and before any long tow.

Boat trailers in saltwater: inspect yearly and plan on replacement rather than repacking if it launches often. Salt gets past the seal and does not leave — see boat trailer service.

Can a hub be serviced at the roadside?

Where the trailer can be blocked and lifted safely, yes — that is a normal roadside job for us on I-95, I-595, I-75 and the Turnpike. Where the shoulder is too narrow or the ground is soft, we get the unit to a safe location first. We will not put a tech under a trailer next to live lanes to save an hour.

Text a photo of the axle tag with your location and which wheel it is. We bring the right bearings the first time.
